This series is based on nothing real, but rather, on ideas of memories - like holding a mirror to them, extracting their experience then translating it into colours, movements & textures. It takes place in the difference between what happened and how I remember it. It is all vaguely familiar, but unrecognizable.
Born from a need to slow myself down, these paintings allow me to saunter into an amalgam of memories and (un)define my idea of them. Daydreaming and cherishing those moments, to savour them just a little longer.
In response to the fast pace and “grind” cities like Vancouver asks of us, I invite the viewers to slow down, contemplate and take their own journey through the painting. The freedom of the abstract allows an emotional response based on their personal narratives and what they have experienced.
Inspired by Abstract Expressionism, I work fast, with intuition and precise chaos. The layers of colours & textures build their own history until the piece becomes a story itself.
